Today is the 36th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision supporting women’s right to choose. This year’s theme is “What is your top pro-choice hope for President Obama and/or the new Congress?”
My biggest hope is that Obama & Friends move quickly to restore choice around the world by removing the global gag rule and to restore choice in the US by overturning the recently enacted HHS conscience clause allowing medical personnel to refuse to do their jobs under the defense of religion or “morality.” (Because wanting to have control over your own life and body is immoral.)
In general, I hope that we all remember that choice is the foundation of liberty, and no choice = no liberty. As we’ve talked about on this blog before, anti-choice is fundamentally Anti-American, and it’s pretty much anti-human, as well. If women are to truly be human, we must treat them with the same humanity as we treat men. Preserving reproductive choice for women around the world is one giant step toward humanity and liberty for all.

Indeed! It’s very exciting. I wasn’t getting my hopes up about anything truly useful happening, let alone this early, but I think I can expect some good things from this guy. He’s definitely not worth repealing the 22nd amendment for, though. ;)
I got a billion emails from Feminist Majority, Planned Parenthood, Ms. Magazine, and other feminist organizations about the end of the rule in the last fifteen minutes. I was just telling Chris that I wish I could consolidate emails like people can consolidate their loans. Just one big email from all of those groups at once — that’d be cool.
